Community Meeting #2 Re: Statement
Our community is founded on a vision of inclusive love for all humanity and all life, which we seek to embody in our diverse and nonjudgmental spiritual community. As we seek to grow personally, come into greater alignment with Spirit, and find peace within, we also share a collective commitment to being part of the great work that people of faith and conscience everywhere are part of: to transform our world towards compassion, equality, justice, and a unity rooted in a sacred awareness that all life comes from the same mysterious, divine source.
So in these unprecedented times of division, hatred, violence, and chaos in our nation and our world, we want to bring our community together to be a sanctuary for each other, especially for those who are most vulnerable to threats such as detention and deportation. We want to reaffirm our sacred mission and activate each other into a spirit of hopeful commitment. We want to find our moral and spiritual voice as a community.
Towards this end, after a community gathering in April called “Community Amidst Chaos,” a group of motivated CSSC members formed a team and drafted the attached statement. In collaboration with the Council of CSSC, we are sharing this statement with all the members of the community. We are also inviting you to a community meeting on Monday, June 16th at 7:30pm via zoom to hear your thoughts and feedback on this statement. Here’s the link to join: https://commonstreet.zoom.us/
After this community-wide discussion, and if the statement is well-received, we will host another meeting on Monday, June 23rd at 7:30pm. At this second meeting, community members will have an opportunity to officially vote on whether or not to adopt the statement on behalf of our community as a whole. (An online ballot will be provided by email, in case you are unable to attend the June 23rd meeting).
Our hope is that this process of engaging our community will yield a powerful statement that will create more safety and solidarity within our community. We also hope that this collaborative process will begin to activate our community and orient us towards putting our sacred vision and values into hopeful action in our community and our wider world. As a spiritual community, we are discerning how to speak hope, truth, and love into our world as a form of prayer in action, as a way to symbolize and make visible that Great Love which is our sacred center.
If you would like to add your name to the statement, or have comments or questions, please follow this link.
We hope to see you at the community meeting on Monday, June 16th at 7:30pm via zoom. Again, here’s the link: https://commonstreet.zoom.us/
