Renewable Natick is a project that was launched in February of 2018 with primary support from CSSC staff and volunteers, in collaboration with other faith communities, organizations, and activists, and in coordination with 350 MA and the Natick Sustainability Committee.
Who We Are:
Renewable Natick is a band of Community Activists concerned about the quality of life on Planet Earth for future generations. It all starts with an idea, so we are looking to compel the appropriate representatives of the Town of Natick to commit to adopting a pathway that will lead to 100% renewable energy sources.
We are Renewable Natick, and we are on a mission to change the world, starting in our own back yard.
Our Vision and Campaign Description:
- Natick powered by 100% renewable energy, rather than fossil fuels that contribute to climate change.
- Energy that is locally sourced and produced, contributing to the resiliency of our local economy.
- A healthy climate for future generations of human and non-human life on planet Earth, our common home.
Intended Results:
Empowering our Sustainability Coordinator and Sustainability Committee to outline and advance ambitious plans for renewable energy.
Additional Beneficial Outcomes:
- Natick would join the many towns in Massachusetts that are leading this move; Massachusetts would in turn lead our nation to transition to renewable energy sources, contributing to a global effort.
- Fostering new relationships between like-minded groups, leaders, and concerned citizens, strengthening our capacity for future environmental and social justice initiatives in our town.
UPDATE ON 1/25/19: Thanks to the combined efforts of our steering committee, we accomplished in exactly eight months what many would have thought impossible. From Renewable Natick’s kick-off meeting on February 18th to the October 18th Fall Town Meeting, we promoted our cause, educated the public, demonstrated the urgency of addressing Climate Change, and our knowledgeable, talented list of speakers at the Fall Town Meeting convinced 88% of the Town Meeting members in attendance to approve Renewable Natick’s Resolution to get the town to Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
On a shoestring budget we created a website, did several mailings, decorated the town with our “Imagine Our Town Powered By” signs, conducted dozens of meetings, made another half-dozen PowerPoint presentations, held three House Parties, made copious redrafts of the Resolution, and even did a TV interview on Pegasus. All these things helped us achieve overwhelming support from Natick’s Town Meeting members.
We invite you to join us as this important work continues! Please visit the Renewable Natick website for more info: www.renewablenatick.org
