SUMMARY:SpiritDrum
DESCRIPTION:A spiritual circle that is open to the public and is geared for adult participation (younger attendees must be able to maintain focus for the full 2 hours).  SpiritDrum blends together meditative drumming\, sacred chant and life-affirming ritual to create an experience that can bring inner peace and a sense of liberation.  The primary instruments are frame drums played with beaters\, as well as shakers and rattles.  Bring your own if you can\, or borrow from the extras on hand (please leave full-size djembe drums at home).  People are asked to arrive before 7pm to settle in before the opening ceremony. \nSpiritDrum is a unique gathering that combines life-affirming ritual with meditative drumming\, sacred chanting and sound exploration for an overall intention of deepening connection between the Earth-mother and our inner selves.  Partly facilitated\, partly free-form\, SpiritDrum creates an intimate space which allows us to express our spiritual aspirations through the vibrations of our drums and voices.  SpiritDrum is unlike a typical drum circle — it is quieter\, more contemplative and focused on healing through the medium of sound. For that reason\, we ask two things: please leave large drums (such as djembes) at home\, and please arrive before 7pm to minimize disruptions once the evening’s energy begins to flow.  Extra drums will be provided for sharing\, but you are encouraged to bring smaller drums such as frame drums\, doumbeks\, bongos and other instruments like rattles\, singing bowls\, chimes\, didgeridoos and flutes.  No prior experience is necessary.  Young people must be able to maintain focus for the full two hours.  Located on the 3rd level in the choir room.  Come in through the School Street entrance. \nDave Curry is the creator of Drums For One & All\, which includes facilitating public events\, giving workshops\, teaching private lessons\, giving live performances\, and doing drum repairs.  Every month\, Dave has lead the popular FreeDrum event since 2001\, and the SpiritDrum event since 2006.  Dave is co-creator and organizer for the Eastern Mass Rhythm Festival\, which is entering its 18th season.  Dave is the author of two books on hand drumming\, and has taught drum classes at the Assabet school since 2009.  Dave is the creative director of the Drum Nomads performance ensemble.  Over the past 22 years\, Dave has lead well over 1000 drumming events at schools\, churches\, colleges\, libraries\, retreat centers and other institutions across New England. \n4th Saturday monthly\, 7pm to 9pm (setup starts at 6pm)\n$10 per person (cash/check/venmo/paypal) \nWebsite:  www.DrumsForOneAndAll.com\nEmail:  Drumhead@DrumsForOneAndAll.com\nFacebook:  www.facebook.com/groups/DrumsForOneAndAll

SUMMARY:Natick Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a song to sing? A story to tell? A dance to dance? Some music to play? Some jokes to share? A poem to read?Well\, we have a stage for you!\n\nCome join us for the latest installment of the Natick Open Mic. We welcome all local talent as solo artists or groups of four members or less. If we have a full roster (generally about 16 acts) then each act gets 8 minutes of stage time to share any kind of performance art that is tastefully entertaining or engaging.\n\nThe hotlines are open to contact Bruno Giles to get your name on the roster. The order of performances is determined randomly on the night of the show\, though we guarantee that you won’t have to go on first because either Dave C or Bruno G will do that for you.\n\nWe provide the stage\, the lighting\, the sound gear\, and even a reasonably well tuned piano. You supply all the other reasonably tuned instruments and voices and the talent to back them up. We don’t expect perfection\, but we do like enthusiasm.\n\nDoors open at 6:00 pm.Show starts at 6:30 pm.\n\nIn order to keep this event afloat\, we ask that everyone\, including the performers\, make a minimum donation of $5 per person. If you can give more\, we appreciate your support\, not only of this event\, but also of the larger work of the Common Street Spiritual Center.

SUMMARY:Ecstatic Dance Featuring the Drum Nomads
DESCRIPTION:Most ecstatic dance events happen to recorded music played by a DJ\, which can be great. But think of how cool it can be when the music is being created live in the moment such that there is a symbiotic connection between the musicians and the dancers. The musicians raise the energy and the dancers respond in kind\, inspiring the musicians to raise the energy even more! The effect can be truly electric!\n\nThe Drum Nomads know their way around a rhythm or two\, but more than just being drummers\, each member plays a variety melodic instruments as well\, creating a wealth of sound that makes the music even more exciting.\n\nWe start off slow with gentle movement and easy going vibes. But things build up gradually in intensity\, rising\, falling\, and rising again even higher. When we hit the blissful peak\, the Drum Nomads will bring things back down for a soft landing\, which then morphs into a restorative sound bath to round out the night.\n\nThis is a “conscious event”\, which means people are expected to participate without the use of drugs or alcohol.\n\nOur goal is to create a safe space for people to express themselves openly through freestyle dance and movement.\n\nThe event is geared towards adults\, but younger people may attend if they are able to maintain their focus for the full 2 hours.\n\nCost is $20 at the door. No need to pre-register.\nDoors open at 6:30pm. Opening ceremony starts at 7:00pm.\nPeople are encouraged to arrive before the opening ceremony to settle in.\nLoose clothing\, water bottles and yoga mats/blankets are also recommended.\nThe Drum Nomads are: Bruno Giles\, Bob Cronin\, Dave Santospago\, Sarah Huber\, Jason Karol and Dave Curry
