SUMMARY:Dub Yoga x Reggae Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, June 29th\, Strictly Yard Music presents a unique night of Yoga\, Reggae\, and Community!  At 7 pm\, Dr. Jen Kurz will teach a special DUB YOGA class in step with the sounds of Reggae and Dub music courtesy of DJ Jah Rich.  This vinyasa flow will have a “taste of the Carribean” as DJ Jah Rich spins the Jamaican music to the beat of the class!  All the action goes down at the popular Common Street Spiritual Center\, a homebase for spiritual entrepreneurship in the MetroWest (MA).  Admission is $15 or a Food Pantry donation at the center. \nAt 8 pm\, the lights turn down and the music turns up!  DJ Jah Rich will spin the best in Reggae from Studio 1 treasures to Rub-a-Dub bangers\, all the way to Dancehall hits and the latest from the ever expanding world of Reggae music.  There will be LIVE performances by Nyjah DiOrganizah and Jah Rico\, who both released a steady stream of singles in 2025/6. There will be a toast at 9 pm to celebrate the birthdays of Empress Jen and Nyjah DiOrganizah.  This Reggae Dance Party is free and family friendly.  There is plenty of parking and a comfortable atmosphere.  This unique event is a one-two punch that shouldn’t be missed!  https://commonstreet.org/event/dub-yoga-x-reggae-dance-party/ \nWhat is Dub music?   \nDub is one of the many sub genres of Reggae.  Dub is instrumental Reggae that is artistically enhanced and layered with effects like echo and reverb as well as production techniques like splicing in snippets of vocals or sporadically dropping out all the instruments except for the powerful\, stripped down drum and bass.  Dub gives the recording engineer the opportunity to become the artist as their multi-track mixing console acts as the instrument.  An engineer making Dub is like a chef creating a unique meal not often seen on most menus!  Jamaican producer and engineer King Tubby is credited as the creator of Dub\, as he first experimented with ways to manipulate and “dub out” his instrumental tracks in the early 1970s.  Today\, his innovation and influence is widely seen in genres like techno\, drum and bass\, and dubstep.  Dub stands as another example of the rich contributions of Jamaican music.  Jah Rich 7/19/2023

SUMMARY:Open Circle and Community Brunch
DESCRIPTION:On the first Sundays of the month\, we combine our Open Circle Gathering with a community potluck brunch.\n\nWe gather and connect in a more relaxed\, less structured way\, yet with threads of meaning and spirituality tying it all together.\n\n\nYou’re welcome\, if it would bring you joy\, to contribute a food or drink item to share as part of the community brunch. Another option is to bring non-perishable food or toiletry items for our free mini-pantry.\n\nOur community is finding a creative place in the spiritual world\, where new forms of spiritual practice\, artistic expression\, and self-awareness are emerging to support humanity to meet the challenges of our times. SUMMARY:African American Saturday School
DESCRIPTION:African American Saturday SchoolThird Saturdays | 12:00–3:00 PMMeeting Room\, Common Street Spiritual CenterFacilitated by Deborah Mitchell \nAfrican American Saturday School is a monthly gathering devoted to learning\, reflection\, and community rooted in the rich history and cultural legacy of African Americans. Led by educator and community leader Deborah Mitchell\, this program offers a space to study African American history through autobiographies\, guided lesson plans\, book discussions\, and presentations from guest speakers. \nParticipants will explore the stories\, struggles\, creativity\, and contributions that have shaped African American life in the United States and beyond. Sessions may include storytelling\, music\, and artistic expression that illuminate the historical journey and cultural traditions of African Americans. \nThe program will also provide space to examine current policy issues affecting African American communities today. Through dialogue and shared learning\, the gathering aims to serve as a thoughtful forum—a place where people of all races\, creeds\, and denominations can engage deeply with history while reflecting on the challenges and possibilities of the present. \nAfrican American Saturday School is also intended to inspire the next generation of leaders by connecting historical knowledge with a sense of responsibility for the future. \nThe program is open and free to the public. A goodwill offering is welcome but not required. Books and African-American-inspired artwork by local\, regional\, and international artists will also be available for purchase. \nAll are welcome to join this ongoing space for learning\, culture\, and community. \nhttps://us04web.zoom.us/j/79271727876?pwd=jH2IwocPAkBHIjwTvWspESRFg98lPn.1 \nMeeting ID: 792 7172 7876\nPasscode: V11P67
